Custom Painting and Detailing
Wabi’s can now be had in almost any color you
can imagine. You can go solid color, or mix it up
any way you want- pearls, candies, whatever.
The guys I found fabricate and paint hot rods and
choppers for a living, so they are no strangers to
creative paint schemes. The paint used is a
polyurethane type.
In addition, custom detailing, like pin striping, lug
lining (for the Special, see pics to the right for an
example), and even having your signature
painted on the frame, can be done. And it’s all
done by hand. The only limits on the paint and
detailing are your imagination and your bank
account.
The easiest way to spec your Wabi custom color
would be to provide an automotive color. You can
get the color code from the parts department at
the dealership that uses that color on their brand
of car. You could also send a color chip. An
e-mailed color chip is not acceptable due to the
different ways different monitors display the
same color. For detailing work, I’d need a very
good description (renderings would be best) of
what you have in mind.
Given the number of options, a price list is not
possible. But for example, the typical 1 color paint
job, with clear coat is $250. To do similar pin
striping (and Japanese character for "Wabi" on
the head tube) as shown on the Classic pictured
would run $140. The lug lining as on the Special
would be $195.
For the painting or detailing, you should allow
approximately 1 additional week before your bike
would ship. If you have both done, it could take 2
weeks or more additional time to ship your order
depending on the detailing you want done.
As you can imagine, I don’t really want to be
stuck with a uniquely colored and/or detailed
frame that someone has ordered and then
changed their mind on, plus the cost of the paint
work, so for the custom paint and detailing
program I will require a non-refundable deposit
that is the quoted cost for the custom work to be
done, and then the original frame or bike cost will
be due at the time of shipping, as usual.
